Douglas Pacaccio, DPM, FACFAS

Ever since I was young, I have had a keen interest in biology. As a student I received an anatomy poster of the leg, ankle, and foot, which invoked a further interest in the biomechanics involved in how the body moved and worked. These interests led me to secure both a degree in Biology, and a concurrent degree in Philosophy; Concentration: Ethics, from the University of Illinois at Urbana/Champaign.

During those undergraduate studies, I had the opportunity to shadow the University of Illinois basketball team podiatrist, where I was able to observe surgical procedures, including a bunionectomy, which left quite an impression on me. The shadowing experience narrowed my focus to pursing a medical career and following my undergraduate degree I was accepted to the Rosalind Franklin University / Chicago Medical School where I received my Doctor of Podiatric Medicine with Magna Cum Laude honors.

After securing my DPM, I completed my residency training at INOVA Fairfax Hospital, a level 1 trauma center, to hone my skills in all aspects of foot and ankle surgery. For further advanced training, I also completed a lower extremity reconstruction and diabetic limb salvage Plastic Surgery Fellowship at Georgetown University Medical Center.

This advanced training and experience has allowed me to specialize in providing custom printed solutions for critical size defects, total ankle replacement, reconstructive forefoot and ankle surgery, surgical repair of peripheral nerve disorders, diabetic Charcot reconstruction, external fixation for deformity correction, orthopedic traumatology, limb salvage, and utilizing regenerative medicine techniques.

In providing care, it is important for me to explain the patient’s issue in an easily understood manner and then offer the treatment options that best meet his or her individual goals and expectations. I believe that no matter how large or small, if a patient’s condition is important to them, then it is important to me as well.

I have also served on the Board of Directors and was a founding member of MedShape, Inc., an Atlanta-based medical device company. I share several orthopedic device patents and have served as past president of the Illinois Medical Association and several hospital committees.

In my free time I enjoy spending time with my wife and family, am an avid hunter and fisherman, and I enjoy cooking and making wine.

I look forward to helping you return to a more active, pain-free lifestyle.
