Matas Orentas, DO
When illness affects a loved family member it can have a far-reaching impact. For me, my own father’s illness and our family’s interaction with his doctors triggered my interest in a medical career. During his care, the valuable information his doctors provided us on his condition and next steps provided clarity and reassurance during a challenging time. It inspired me to want to be on that other side, to be the one to help other patients and their families with answers or laying groundwork for what was to come.
I began my training journey by attaining my undergraduate degree in Biology at Loyola University in Chicago and my Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree at Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine, Midwestern University, in Downers Grove. I followed the attainment of my medical degree with internship and residency training in Internal Medicine at Rush University Medical Center.
I chose to specialize in Rheumatology because I enjoy the multi-system disease processes, the constantly evolving treatment options, and the opportunity to form strong physician-patient relationships. When a diagnosis is unclear, a Rheumatologist is often consulted, and I enjoy the process of analyzing a plethora of data and navigating grey areas. I gained this further specialization through a Rheumatology Fellowship at Rush University Medical Center.
Today, in my practice, I provide osteoarthritis, osteoporosis, and auto-immune disease care, with a special interest in rheumatoid arthritis and gout.
I believe in fostering a strong patient-physician relationship based on mutual trust, respect, and knowledge. Given the extensive treatment options now available for systemic autoimmune diseases and the unique experiences and goals of each patient, I have found that this partnership improves satisfaction and understanding for both me and my patients.
I look forward to partnering with you to help you achieve a more active and symptom-free lifestyle.
