Neal Shah, MD
Thank you for entrusting me with providing your specialized care. I would love to share information about my background, experience in medicine, and approach to patient care with you.
My interest in medicine began at the age of eight, when I fell and injured my arm. This injury resulted in numerous visits with members of healthcare that left an impression on me. My love and appreciation for medicine grew after witnessing my grandmother’s battle with diabetes and how her chronic disease affected her quality of life. Though she had poor access to health care resources in India and suffered significantly, she had compassionate physicians. The positive impact these physicians had on my grandmother’s life impressed and motivated me to pursue my own medical career. To this day, I work diligently to form strong bonds with my patients and strive to gain a comprehensive view on their quality of life.
I completed both my undergraduate studies and earned my medical degree from Saint Louis University School of Medicine in St. Louis, Missouri. During my medical school training, I gained insight into the field of pain medicine. I completed my Anesthesiology residency at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center where I was the Chief Resident. I returned to my hometown of Chicago to pursue additional fellowship training in Pain Medicine at Rush University Medical Center. Through my training, I developed a deep dedication to improving my patient’s quality of life using comprehensive care plans.
As an interventional pain management specialist, I see patients at their most vulnerable moments, when chronic pain is diminishing quality of life. I love having the ability to significantly improve my patients’ quality of life through a multimodal approach to pain management. Bringing regional anesthetic options and advanced therapies like radiofrequency ablation, neuromodulation, and infusion therapies such as ketamine and propofol into my practice allows me to utilize a multimodal approach to building comprehensive treatment plans tailored for each individual.
Despite being a Chicago native, I still find new things to explore in the city. When I am not practicing medicine, I enjoy biking along the lakeshore, swimming, trying new restaurants and traveling globally with my wife to explore new cultures and cuisines. I am also an avid sports fan and love watching basketball, baseball, football, and tennis.
I look forward to collaborating with you to develop a plan designed to improve your function and get you back to enjoying a quality life.
